About Creative Partnerships

about the damage projectCreative Partnerships works to give schoolchildren throughout England the opportunity to develop their potential, their ambition, their creativity and their imagination through sustainable partnerships with creative and cultural organisations, businesses and individuals.

Creative Partnerships North and South Tyneside has at its heart a ‘whole’ school and ‘whole’ child approach. Our ‘family’ of staff, partners and schools are encouraged and supported to take risks. We believe that their journey is just as important as the destination.

…Leading the way, making the leap…

By engaging the schools of the North and South Tyneside Creative Partnerships in the development, scripting, production and all other associated elements of the making of a feature film we hope to create a project and story that will take the young people of the area, their teachers and parents on their own creative and educational journey.

More about Creative Partnerships

Creative Partnerships North and South Tyneside has been operating since September 2004, working with 18 core schools throughout both boroughs and a number of other schools in the area; with great success.

What is Creative Partnerships?

Creative Partnerships is intended to:

  • Raise the aspirations and achievements of young people and equip them with skills for life
  • Develop the abilities of teachers and their capacity to work with creative professionals
  • Encourage the continued growth of the creative industries

about the damage projectCreative Partnerships focuses on the most deprived communities in England many of whom receive little or no cultural funding.

The programme achieves its aims by unlocking the creativity of learners and educators, and developing creative approaches to teaching all aspects of the curriculum.

Creative Partnerships enables head teachers to realise their personal vision for a school, freeing them up to innovate and succeed. It encourages an approach designed around the needs of the individual school with learning tailored to the needs and aspirations of each child.

Creative Partnerships enables schools to work with creative practitioners to develop a broad, balanced and relevant curriculum.  It does so by supporting a range of creative practitioners to work in partnership with schools in long term sustained relationships.

What has Creative Partnerships delivered so far?

about the damage projectCreative Partnerships now operates in 36 areas in England and is working intensively with around 1,100 schools. It has disseminated best practice to and supported projects in a further 4,000 so that 1 in 5 schools in England have had some contact with the programme. Creative Partnerships has worked with 450,000 young people and 46,000 teachers, provided training to 28,000 teachers and creative practitioners and employed 4,250 creative practitioners and cultural organisations. Research by the Burns Owen Partnership has shown that while the impact of the programme is largely felt in education, over 60% of all Creative Partnerships expenditure is on creative practitioners and cultural organisations. By 2008, will amount to almost £80 million.

The “Damage” Project

about the damage projectThis is an exciting and innovative project which has tied in with many areas of the National Curricululm and been regularly integrated into daily school activites in many of the Creative Partnerships schools. Those involved have the opportunity to forge a reputation as forward thinkers in both the creative and educational sectors.

The end product will be a high quality feature film created in collaboration between local school children, creative professionals and local communities. The project has the potential to put Creative Partnerships N&S Tyneside and its associated schools, and their pupils on an international map and could be used in the future as a template for future work and learning, across the region and beyond.
